Day 3 of My Big 55TH Birthday Bash!

Happy Chinese New Year!!  I hope the year brings you both prosperity and happiness!  I know I'm happy!  I have an excellent new Design Team who will be introducing themselves to you soon...I'm turing 55 on the 28TH...my family is healthy and we have a roof over our heads and food in our bellies--a little too much food has made us have too mcuh belly, but that's one more thing to be grateful for.  And, I've discovered through the years, that it's the small things that really make us happy.  So, share my happieness and help me celebrate my birthday--all month long!
Oh, and I wanted to announce the WINNER of yesterday's prize, which was the cute Hedgehog stamp and the Groundhog's Day foam embellies....The lucky follower is number 39, none other than our own Bonnie--A Scrap Above!  Bonnie, please send me your addy and I'll get your gift right out to you--Bonnie said, "Hey Karel  LOL.. You are just to creative! And I love how you did the shadow, this is a one of a kind cool card! The next 6 weeks? oh, I am guessing I will be back and forth from scrapbooking and packing for our move.. Nothing but fun!  TFS and a chance to win."  Thanks, Bonnie, for the kind words.  I'm tickled PINK you won!
I know this year is the Chinese Year of the Rabbit, but I always think of dragons when I think of Chinese New Year.  I have some Asian influenced stamps, as well as the wonderful Pagoda Cartridge, but I wasn't feeling particularly sophisticated and Zen when I wanted to make this card.  So, I went with this darling Dustin Pike digital stamp.  Isn't this just the cutest thing?  I colored him with Copics and then accented him in places with Spica Glitter Pens.  I used old school scalloped scissors to cut him out, and inked the edges with a purple cat's eye ink. I then added some confetti and streamers with the gliitter pens.  I adhered the finished product to a lime green A2 card base with my ATG after adding a lime green ribbon from a spool I got at WalMart after Christmas.  I tied it in a square knot instead of a bow, so this could go for a boy or a girl...The sentiment inside just says Happy Birthday To You!
And, Happy Birthday to YOU, as well!  The give-away for today is a special, Chinese New Year one!  It includes some colorful and detailed embellishments from Jolee's (and aren't they the best?!!) and some Chinese Red Embossing Powder. Anyway, I'll choose the winner bright and early tomorrow (that's when I get up--which, come to think of it, isn't always bright or early...) and mail it out to you as soon as I can get to the post office!  To have a chance at winning this Chinese New Year gift, leave a comment telling what your New Year's Resolution was, and how many days it took to break it.  I'll start, and say one of my goals was to visit 5 other blogs every day and leave comments...I was really good about it for about three weeks....when I had to get serious about the DT Call arrangements and the party you're at.  I really, truly plan to get back out there and visit...I even have a Flamingo Favorite Blog Award to leave....soon.  I promise.  Anyway, be a Follower, leave your comment, and I'll have Randy (random.org) choose a winner tomorrow morning.
Please stop by tomorrow, to see what else I've got in store for Mt Big 55TH Birthday Bash!  Be blessed.

  1. My biggest resolution this year was to de-junk and organize my scrap room. I actually started before New Year's and got a little ways into it. Then on January 03, I started helping with the school play and have not had much time to do it since so I guess my resolution did not last long - but I am not giving up, still planning to do it :) These little goodies are adorable by the way! Love that card!

  3. I am with you Karel, I always think of Dragons when it is Chinese New Year. My youngest was born on Friday, Oct. 13th in the Year of the Dragon. So you can see why the Dragon is what I think of.

I am blessed with a great friend like you along with all the family, roof over head and food in my belly.

    God Bless you and yours.

  4. I didn't even know it was the Chinese New Year-Happy New Year! I was born in the year of the dragon, maybe I should break out my Dustin Pike stamps... My new Years Resolution was to organize my craft stuff (I only made one, so I could maybe keep it), it took about 15 days to organize and my goal now is keeping it that way. Right now it looks messy, but I just finished crafting, by tonight it will all be back in it's place!

  10. Great card! Such cute dragons. Like you, I'm up at the crack of dawn or should I say before dawn cracks. lol The only New Year's Resolution that I made this year was to get my house organized. So far I haven't broken it & I'm slowly getting organized. With health issues it's hard to do but I'm trying & taking my time doing it. Enjoy your day & your b'day month.

  14. We had plans to celebrate the Chinese New Year at the boys school today, but we have another snow day! Jim brought home some awesome decorative tassles that they use during their holiday to give to each of the students! Guess it will have to wait until tomorrow.

My new years resolution was to get my scrapping area reorganized and cleaned up by the end of January and I'm proud and happy to say that I was successful!

  28. What a cute card. I love Dustin Pike's digis. My New Year's resolution was to craft at least once a week. So far I have kept it up but the time spent each week has been getting less and less because of our schedules. I am hoping to get to craft some tomorrow and Saturday.

  29. I don't make hard resolutions because then I just beat myself up about not following through with them. However it has been a *goal* of mine to make more time to scrapbook because I have literally years worth of pictures that need to be put in albums. I've been a slacker over summer and was really busy over fall so I'm just getting back into the swing of things. I did some re-organizing and did manage to make a few layouts and card collections which I still need to post on my own blog. lol. Thanks for the opportunity to win. Disney Dreamer sent me your way :)

  33. Very cute card! My New Year's Resolution was to show my Exceptional Needs students a blood like yours every day to give them ideas for their own cards. We are making handmade cards to sell at a Spring craft show. the students are trying to earn money to go on an end of the year field trip to an amusement park. It's a big task for this group of kids but they are determined. So far I have only been able to show them blogs 3or4 blogs with all the snow days. Hopefully with the groundhog not seeing his shadow yesterday, we will be in school and the bad weather is behind us and I will be able to get back on track with this project. Your work is definately the inspiration we need.

  35. Wow I have so many things I'm "Goaling" to do....
But, first I wanted to say Congratulations to Bonnie!!!! I'm so happy for you.

Now back to me, my first "Goal" is to limit what I'm spending on my crafting and I can say, I'm doing pretty darn good. We're moving so it's important. I feel like I should go through and use up some of the things I just had to have at one time.... alot of it I never even opend.

My next goal is to update my blog more often, which I'm doing. Going to do that as soon as I'm done here. And, to participate in more blog hops and challenges. I'm not doing to bad with that neither.

I really feel like I should lose some weight too. Being less mobile then I used to be has not been kind to my waist line : ( I just need to be more active and unfortunately sitting and crafting isn't burning many calories either. Good news is I really don't snack when I'm crafting. So, that's a plus.....

Any whoooo...... Thanks Karel, and I'm loving your dragon he's adorable. Like the colors of this one too.

Oh and Patricia did a Flamtastigo good on your new Blinkie!!! I grabbed it.

  41. I actually shy away from resolutions, I can never keep them. Instead I follow Ali Edwards "Word of the year". My word for 2011 is Focus. I'm doing awesome with it at this point. I'm focusing on myself, my family, my career, etc. It's going really well. My life is in an awesome place right now.

    Happy Chinese New Year Karel!

Your comments are cherished--as are you. There wouldn't be a Blog without you to read it--and the flamingos would have stolen much more of my sanity without the Blog to give me a tenuous hold on the outside world. So, thank you. I love you all--Be Blessed.
